Geisha (band)
History
In 1987, Geisha changed to Doheny, Steve Carter, Laurence Maddy, Tommy Hosie and Rob Dean (ex Japan). They released a second album, Midnight to Dawn, and some more singles and broke up in April 1988.[1]In 1998, EMI released a "best of" and Geisha temporarily reformed for a live performance.[2][3]
Doheny released an album of acoustic versions of Geisha songs in 2006.[4][5][6] 2006 also saw the release of No Second Prize (recorded in the late 1980s). In 2007, Doheny formed a new lineup of Geisha with Joe Matera.[7][8]
Chris Doheny released a solo single, "Can You Hear The Rain" (Roadshow Music), in 1997 and has played with Diamond Dogs, All the Young Dudes and Dragonfly.[1] Doheny released a six-track mini album with his band "All The Young Dudes" in 1991. 1993 saw his hard rock project "Dragonfly" (with Craig Harnath of Kids in the Kitchen and Chocolate Starfish) release an EP River Of Love and another EP Black Money. In 1994, Doheny was recruited to sing "More Than A Game", the theme song for The Footy Show, which charted in the top 40,[9] becoming Doheny's first appearance on the Australian charts as a solo artist.
In January 2010 Geisha released a new/compilation album titled Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow through the Australian music label Diamond Dog Records.
The album contains the single "Birthday" (previously an iTunes release only) and a "double-A" release to radio of "Mystery Writer/Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". The album also has every single released since 1985 digitally re-mastered. Extra tracks are the Small Faces "Tin Soldier" and The Beatles "Come Together", which appeared on the 1985 vinyl album but never before released on CD.
In late 2010, guitarist Joe Matera left the group to pursue a solo career.
In 2012 the line up of Chris Doheny (vocals, guitar, bass) Alby Stefani (bass, guitar, keys)and Tom Hosie (drums)who is one of the original 80's line up,recorded an album "Dysphasia". The first single from this new studio album was "Sailing" through Australian Independent label Diamond Dog Records.
Chris also released a solo single early 2012. A cover of the Foo Fighters song "Times Like These".
